Ai.day was created to help individuals receive the latest AI news and use AI-powered technology to generate images, improve text, generate videos and get feedback on education. My job was to create a website and application to support these goals.
My world is one of colors, shapes, patterns, and pixels. But ai.day presents a different puzzle: not just to design an interface, but to sculpt an experience — an experience that evokes wonder yet feels familiar. Through trials, iterations, and aha-moments I have managed to create a cohesive digital experience — a website and application.
Once the goals for the project were clear and the brief was concluded, I started laying down the roadmap. The list of all deliverables with the timeline. I have divided the design of the project into 5 main stages:
I held brainstorming sessions with stakeholders to understand their vision for "ai.day." It was crucial to align on the project's scope, target audience, primary features, and desired outcomes.
To design a user-centric platform, I had to understand our users inside out. Empathy was the cornerstone in this phase.
With a wealth of user insights at disposal, the next move was to design user journeys that epitomize simplicity and fluidity. This step was instrumental in ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience, cutting down on potential roadblocks and frustrations.
This phase was the canvas where creativity unfurled its wings. With the foundational elements in place, I delved into the aesthetics of "ai.day."
The final, yet pivotal phase was to ensure everything worked as intended.
Before any design could take shape, it was essential to immerse myself in the world of our target audience. Through UX research, I sought to uncover what users wanted. Here's a quick look at my investigative journey into the heart of user needs and expectations.
The process began with conversations that mattered, where I sat down with key people who played a key role in our project. During these discussions, we aligned our goals, understood what the business wanted to achieve, and figured out what challenges we might face along the way.Stakeholder interviews gave me a direction, ensuring I knew where we were headed and why we were going there.
In the user research phase, I prioritized to understand our target audience. I conducted user interviews with potential customers, getting valuable insights into their preferences, expectations, and existing pain points related to AI interfaces. Using analytics tools, I tracked user behavior patterns and interaction points. The data gathered formed the backbone of our user persona development.
Distilling insights from user interviews and surveys, the empathy map provided an understanding of the users' thoughts, feelings, pain points, and aspirations in relation to ai.day. By charting out user perspectives, I was able to pinpoint areas where the design could most effectively resonate, bridging the gap between user needs and our design solutions.
I created a customer journey map to visually represent the users' interactions across the website and AI application. I began by pinpointing key touchpoints, from initial discovery to sustained engagement. This allowed me to unearth moments of friction and areas that needed optimisation.
By creating user flow diagrams, I outlined the most direct paths users would take from their initial interaction to their desired endpoints. It dictated the structure and the sequence of screens, ensuring a streamlined and intuitive navigation.
My aim was to infuse the project with a distinct aesthetic that mirrored ai.day’s innovative essence. Colors, typography, and graphical elements were chosen and applied with a focused intention — each aspect created to outline consistency while ensuring the design resonated with the AI theme of the project.
In determining the color palette for ai.day, I leaned heavily on evoking feelings of innovation and trustworthiness. Given the project's emphasis on AI, I anchored our palette with a shade of purple, signifying the vastness of AI potential. This primary color was complemented with a neutral, gray color to maintain balance and readability throughout the user interface.
I chose the typography to drove the visual hierarchy and enhance readability. A modern, sans-serif typeface was chosen for its clean lines and contemporary aesthetic, ensuring that the textual content was both compelling and easily digestible. I also designed a type-scale with adjustments in kerning, leading.
i designed the layout to be responsive, ensuring seamless adaptability across devices – from HD desktops to mobiles. By employing a grid-based approach, content and visual elements were organized cohesively, promoting easy navigation and readability.
I designed and delivered 32 prioritized deliverables ahead of the originally planned schedule. This enabled a timely progression into subsequent phases of development.
Throughout the project, a strong connection was maintained between the design and the development team. This ensured that design implementations were in line with developmental capabilities, reducing potential iteration cycles.
Post-launch, there was a noticeable improvement in user interactions and conversion rates. Specifically, within the first 6 months following the project's initiation, the conversion rate increased by 36%. This surge can be attributed to the design heuristics and the deployment of quantitative research methods post the initial design phase.
